Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Purpose

Biloxi Little Theatre recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) technology continues to evolve and is increasingly integrated into communication platforms, marketing systems, search engines, social media applications, creative tools, and everyday business operations.

This policy is intended to provide general guidance regarding the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of AI within Biloxi Little Theatre (“BLT”) operations while allowing flexibility for future updates as technology changes and expands.

BLT values creativity, authenticity, artistic integrity, and respect for all participants, volunteers, patrons, playwrights, performers, designers, staff, and community members.

 

AI Use Categories

For purposes of this policy, BLT recognizes that AI-related technologies exist on a spectrum.

  • Incidental AI processing refers to automated features embedded within commonly used software, platforms, or devices, including functions that may occur automatically or outside of BLT’s direct control.

  • AI-assisted editing refers to the use of AI-supported tools to enhance, organize, edit, or improve existing human-created content.

  • Substantive generative creation refers to the use of AI to create significant original content, including synthetic imagery, writing, audio, video, or other creative works.

BLT recognizes important distinctions between these categories and intends for this policy to be interpreted accordingly.

 

1. General Philosophy

BLT strives to use AI minimally and thoughtfully, primarily as a supplemental tool rather than a replacement for human creativity, artistic expression, or live theatrical collaboration.

AI may be used to assist with:

  • Marketing support

  • Administrative tasks

  • Content organization

  • Graphic layout assistance

  • Captioning or transcription

  • Editing support

  • Idea generation

  • Search optimization

  • Scheduling and workflow tools

  • Accessibility enhancements

  • Other operational or promotional functions

Whenever practical, BLT prioritizes human-created content, live artistic collaboration, and original creative work.

 

2. Transparency and Disclosure

BLT is committed to transparency regarding AI use.

If AI-generated or AI-assisted content could reasonably impact participants, patrons, playwrights, volunteers, or performers, BLT will make reasonable efforts to disclose that AI was utilized.

Examples may include:

  • Promotional graphics

  • Video or audio enhancements

  • AI-assisted marketing campaigns

  • AI-generated imagery

  • AI-assisted scripts or written content

  • AI-assisted voice, likeness, or visual modifications

BLT will disclose if substantive generative AI plays a significant role in the creation of a promotional image, advertisement, graphic, or other marketing asset.

 

3. Marketing and Promotional Materials

BLT may use AI-assisted tools in the development of marketing and promotional materials. These tools may assist with:

  • Graphic design enhancement

  • Layout formatting

  • Caption suggestions

  • Copy editing

  • Search engine optimization

  • Social media optimization

  • Visual concept generation

  • Audio/video editing assistance

BLT acknowledges that many digital platforms, search engines, and social media applications now incorporate AI features automatically or by default. Some AI-assisted processing may occur outside of BLT’s direct control when using third-party platforms and services.

BLT will make reasonable efforts to remain aware of these technologies and use them responsibly.

 

4. Participant Likeness and Opt-Out Rights

BLT respects that individuals may have differing opinions and comfort levels regarding AI use.

Participants may opt out of substantive generative or transformative AI use of their likeness, image, voice, or identifiable performance materials were reasonably possible.

Individuals requesting limitations beyond substantive generative or transformative AI use acknowledge that:

  • Certain promotional opportunities may become limited

  • Their image or likeness may not be included in specific promotional campaigns or materials

  • Some third-party platform processing may occur outside of BLT’s direct control

BLT will make reasonable efforts to honor opt-out requests while balancing operational and promotional needs.

Nothing in this policy guarantees complete exclusion from incidental or automated AI-related platform processing beyond BLT’s control.

 

5. Live Performance and Artistic Integrity

BLT values live theatre as a human-centered art form grounded in authentic performance, collaboration, and storytelling.

AI shall not replace:

  • Live actors in staged productions

  • Directors

  • Designers

  • Musicians

  • Choreographers

  • Playwrights

  • Creative production staff

AI tools may be used only as supportive resources and not as substitutes for the artistic contributions of theatre personnel.

BLT encourages ethical creative practices that preserve the integrity of live performance and original artistic work.

 

6. Playwriting and Script Submission Disclosure

Any playwright, submitter, or creator providing scripts, adaptations, or theatrical works to BLT for consideration must disclose substantive generative AI involvement in the creation of submitted material. Routine AI editorial or assistive tools do not necessarily constitute substantive AI authorship.

Disclosure does not automatically disqualify a submission. However, failure to disclose known substantive generative AI involvement may impact eligibility, consideration, or future submissions.

BLT reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of AI in submitted materials.

 

7. Ethical and Legal Considerations

BLT expects all AI use associated with theatre operations to comply with:

  • Copyright laws

  • Licensing agreements

  • Privacy expectations

  • Intellectual property protections

  • Applicable platform terms of service

  • Ethical artistic standards

BLT will not knowingly use AI tools in ways that intentionally:

  • Misrepresent performers or participants

  • Create deceptive promotional content

  • Violate intellectual property rights

  • Exploit copyrighted works without authorization

  • Harm the reputation or integrity of individuals involved with BLT

 

8. Policy Review and Future Revisions

Because AI technology continues to rapidly evolve, this policy is intended to remain flexible and adaptable.

BLT reserves the right to:

  • Modify this policy

  • Expand or restrict AI usage

  • Implement additional procedures

  • Create supplemental guidelines

  • Adjust disclosure requirements

Updates may occur as technology, legal standards, community expectations, and industry best practices continue to develop.

 

9. Respect for Individual Perspectives

BLT acknowledges that opinions regarding AI use vary widely within the artistic community.

The organization respects and values differing viewpoints and encourages open, respectful dialogue regarding the role of AI in theatre and the arts.

BLT remains committed to balancing innovation, transparency, creativity, inclusivity, and artistic integrity while prioritizing the human connection that live theatre provides.
